Portable data processing apparatus 1, for generating and issuing tickets, comprises a data processing device 5 with data storage means, a display screen 11, data input means 13, and processing means for generating ticketing data from input data and/or stored data, and a base station 3 with a store for ticket substrates and means for transferring a representation of the ticketing data onto a ticket substrate and dispensing the ticket substrate, wherein the data processing device is removable from the apparatus for subsequent connection to a remote processing centre for data transfer therewith. Also disclosed is a user interface for the apparatus, a data reader (75, fig 6a) with means for reading two types of magnetic stripe substrate, and a strap assembly with mountings (107, fig 9) that allow the apparatus to be locked in a certain angular position. |
