PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device for removing image forming material with which the dropout of the hot-melt resin is prevented, which is stabilized over a long period of time, and which can reliably carry out removal of the image forming material. SOLUTION: Between a heating roll 18 and a heating roll 20, a cooling member 48 and a separating pawl 56 are disposed. The position where the front end of the separating pawl 56 comes in contact with an image removing belt 22 is provided at the point where the temperature of the image removing layer 26 on the image removing belt 22 is equal to or higher than the glass transition temperature of the hot-melt resin which constitutes toner T and is equal to or lower than the melting point of the wax resin contained in the toner T. Since the viscosity of the image removing layer 26 at this point is more reduced than that after solidification by cooling, the hot-melt resin which constitutes the image removing layer 26 does not drop out from the image removing belt 22 even if big bending stress is generated in the image removing layer 26.
