PURPOSE: To provide a metal carrier for a waste gas purifying catalyst with high warming and insulating functions by specifying the radius from a center axis and the thickness of foils at the time when the carrier is composed of two kinds of honeycombs made of foils with respectively different thickness at the boundary of inside and outside of cylindrical parts with the specific radius from the center axis of the carrier. CONSTITUTION: A honeycomb body produced by laminating a flat foil and a corrugated foil and winding the foils is inserted in an external cylinder 1. The honeycomb body is composed of thick foil honeycomb 2 produced from a flat foil and a corrugated foil with 50-200μm thickness and set around the outer circumferential part and a thin foil honeycomb 2 produced from a flat foil and a corrugated foil with 20-40μm thickness and set in the inner side. The ratio of the thick foil honeycomb 2 and the thin foil honeycomb is defined to limit the radius of the thin foil honeycomb 3 to be 55-85% of the radius of the whole honeycomb body. The flat foils and the corrugated foils are joined in the edge parts 4, 4' of the honeycomb body gas in the gas flowing-in side and the thick foil honeycomb 2 and the thin foil honeycomb 3 are joined, for example, in the edge parts 5 in the gas outlet side and the joining part 6 between the external cylinder 1 and the thick honeycomb 2 is formed in the area covering the parts where respective foils are not joined with the edge part 4' in the gas inlet side. |
