PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a data recording device to be directly connected to a network so that, when the device is shared by plural terminal devices on the network, a data write error due to a buffer underrun can be avoided. SOLUTION: A system controller 17 monitors the amount of data in a buffer memory 9 while data transferred from an arbitrary PC42 is being written on an optical disk 30 of a CD-R/RW disk or the like compliant with the CD format. The system controller 17, if it detects the buffer underrun such that data in the buffer memory 9 is equal to or less than a predetermined amount and the data transfer can not be ready in time for, suspends the data writing, waits for the data sent from the PC42, and if the data in the buffer memory 9 comes to the predetermined amount or above, resumes the data writing, maintaining the continuity of CIRC of the data.
