PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an iron oxide particulate red pigment having a small particle size without containing cadmium, lead or chromium as a metal oxide-based red pigment. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing iron oxide particulate red pigment is characterized in that, after brown iron oxide fine particles havingγ-Fe2O3 crystalline structure are manufactured by the DC arc plasma method by using an iron source material as a consumptive anode electrode, the iron oxide fine particles are calcined in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to obtain red fine particles each havingα-Fe2O3 crystalline structure.
