PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage quantity detector capable of accurately detecting the storage quantity of paper sheets in a paper sheet sorting device. SOLUTION: This storage quantity detector is provided for detecting the storage quantity of paper sheets in each storage section in a paper sheet sorting device 10 for sorting the paper sheets P to be sorted into different sections, into any of a plurality of storage sections M1 to Mn and N1 to Nn partitioned in regular sequence by a plurality of displaceable partitions MS1 to MSn and NS1 to NSn to store the paper sheets P. The storage quantity detector comprises a detecting means for detecting the present position of each partition, and a determining means for determining the paper sheet storage quantity of each storage section partitioned by a pair of adjacent partitions on the basis of the detection result of the detecting means.
