PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method enabling an anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal panel to favorably display with little fluctuation in a transmitted light quantity at an unselected state, and also display gradations without changing a level of an applied voltage of a signal electrode waveform. SOLUTION: A voltage drive waveform has a scanning period, and the waveforms of the preceding and following scanning periods are symmetrical to 0 V, and each scanning period is of a driving waveform in which two periods of a selection period and a non-selection period exist, and a transmitted light quantity is controlled by modulating the pulse width of a pulse to be applied thereto for the selection period.
