PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for extracting melody information to properly extract desire melody information by a simple operation. SOLUTION: A melody signal inputted with a voice or the like is A/D converted, and frequency-analyzed or pitch-analyzed in each frame with a prescribed time interval, and sound height data including a silent state in each frame are time-sequentially extracted, and the sound height data in each frame are successively compared with each other so that the adjacent sound height data included in the same scale can be quantized as one scale data in a sound height and sound length direction.
