PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader shortening time taken to read both faces of paper and putting the page sequence of the delivered paper in order. SOLUTION: This image reader for reading both front and rear faces of paper is provided with an inversion means (a front half part of a paper conveying path R2) for inverting the front and rear faces before reading the sheet face of the paper fed into the paper conveying path from a paper feeding tray 9, and a reverse inversion means (an extra roller 26, a first pressure roller 29, a third paper conveying path R3, etc.), for inverting the front and rear faces of the sheet face again after reading the inverted paper. It is constituted to convey the paper along the paper conveying path 2 to the inversion means, a reading part 2 and the reverse inversion means, and further to the reading part 2 via the reverse inversion means.
