PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly identify the species of coins including a new 500-yen coin. SOLUTION: This coin selector is provided with a magnetic sensor 11 detecting the magnetic characteristics of coins, a diameter sensor 20 detecting only the coins corresponding to the maximum diameter, and an identifying means 30. The identifying means 30 can correctly identify the species of the inserted coin based on the outputs of the magnetic sensor 11 and the diameter sensor 20 even if the magnetic characteristics of the new 500-yen coin and a 100-yen coin are similar to each other.
