PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated waste treatment system that is compact, safe, free from a risk of environmental pollution, and capable of carbonizing wastes into a reusable product. SOLUTION: The system 40 consists of a furnace body consisting of upright cylindrical inner and outer furnaces 47 and 48; a motor-driven agitation screw 42 placed on the bottom; electrical heaters 43a and 43b placed respectively on the external periphery of the side wall of the furnace 47 and on the external surface of the bottom wall; a temperature sensor 44 that measures the temperature in the inner furnace; the primary heating furnace 50 provided with the cover 45 of a waste inlet and the cover 46 of a waste outlet and heats and carbonizes the wastes for 8-15 hr under exclusion of air; the secondary open-top chimney-like heating furnace 60 that communicates with the primary furnace at its top, passes gases G, and heat-treats them at 800-900 deg.C; and a control unit 11 that performs the control of start up and stop, the temperature control, the control of waste agitation, and the control of opening/shutting of the covers 45 and 46.
