METHOD FOR PRODUCING FLUORINE-CONTAINING ALCOHOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing alcohol substantially free from an impurity by a smooth distilling operation. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fluorine-containing alcohol expressed by the following formula (1): H(CF2CF2)nCH2OH [(n)=1 or 2] in the presence of a radical-generating source by using tetrafluoroethylene and methanol as starting materials comprises the steps of (i) reacting tetrafluoroethylene with methanol, (ii) bringing the obtained crude reaction product in contact with a base and removing a generated solid portion and tar portion, and (iii) distilling the product treated with the above (ii) process for recovering the fluorine-containing alcohol of the formula (1).
