PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball inspector which sections an inspecting area into ball-present regions and ball-absent regions and sets different ball inspecting criteria for the ball-present regions and the ball-absent regions, thereby accurately inspecting a wide inspecting area. SOLUTION: The ball inspector for apparatus for mounting balls on an object employs a first means for taking images for inspecting balls, a second means for sectioning the image region taken by the image taking means into ball- present regions and ball-absent regions, and a third means for setting different ball inspecting criteria for the ball-present regions and the ball-absent regions.
