PURPOSE: A method for updating the printer-executable program through the computer interface communication is provided for a common user, having no special knowledge about the printer, to update the printer-executable program just through the communication between the computer and the printer. CONSTITUTION: The user connects a printer with a PC through a communication cable and turns on the printer(S21). The printer stays in the stand-by condition by receiving a stand-by command from the PC(S22). The PC transfers to the printer a program that stores the executable program to a RAM area(S23). The PC transfers the update-executable program to the printer, which stores the update-executable program to the RAM area(S24). The PC checks through the check sum of the data if the update-executable program is normally transferred and overwritten or not(S25). If the program update is successfully completed, the PC ends the printer-executable program(S26).
