PURPOSE: An apparatus for searching a cell in an asynchronous mobile communication system and a method therefor are provided so that a slot timing synchronization performance can be improved and complication in a hardware can be overcome, by measuring a few slots and deciding a slot timing synchronization time according to the measured value. CONSTITUTION: A 16 tap matching filter(201) matches with sequence 'a' having a length of 16, and matches sequence 'c' of the first synchronous channel with sequence 'a'. A sequence y generator(202) generates a sequence having a given length of 16. A multiplier(203) multiplies the output from the 16 tap matching filter(201) by the output from the sequence y generator(202), and outputs the resultant value. An adder(204) adds the output from the multiplier(203) to the final feedback outputs(16 results, zI(n)) by a number corresponding to the length of sequence 'y'. A memory(205) stores the 16 results from the continuous 256 outputs from the 16 tap matching filter(201), and provides the final outputs(16 results). The memory(205) can include 16 delay units connected in series or 16 memories connected in parallel. In order to prevent variations due to noise, a few slots are measured and a slot timing synchronization time is determined on the basis of the measured value. |
