PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for processing interlace to progressive conversion of cinema mode are provided to offer a high-definition picture similar to the original picture provided by a broadcasting station when a receiver handles interlace to progressive conversion of cinema mode. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for processing interlace to progressive conversion of cinema mode includes a cinema mode judgement unit(301) and an interlace to progressive conversion processor(310). When a video signal in interlaced-scanning cinema mode is received, the cinema mode judgement unit judges if the video signal includes video signals other than the video signal in cinema mode. The interlace to progressive conversion processor selectively performs cinema-dedicated interlace to progressive conversion and regular interlace to progressive conversion for the video signal received according to the judged result of the cinema mode judgement unit, to output a sequential-scanning video signal.
