PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous resin composition and an aqueous coating agent which is excellent in elasticity and freeze thaw adhesion as well as water, solvent, weather and contamination resistances. SOLUTION: The aqueous resin composition is obtained by solution polymerizing 0.5-50 wt.% polymerizable unsaturated monomer (A) having a long hydrolysable silyl group between silicon crosslinking, 10-20 wt.% polymerizable unsaturated monomer (B) having an ion forming group, [100-(A+B)] wt.% other polymerizable unsaturated monomer (C) and colloidal silica (D) in 5-100 wt.% based on whole polymerizable unsaturated monomers and a compound (E) having a hydrolysable silyl group and mercapto group in 0.1-5 wt.% based on whole polymerizable unsaturated monomer, and adding water to the obtained resin solution to emulsify.
