PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and smoothly guide a traveling crab to just above an article to be stored, the object of the operation. SOLUTION: The invention is the method of operating a travelling crane mounted in a pit-like storage facility 1 for storing wastes, etc., from an operation room on the ground. First, vertical scale lines 12 in the horizontal direction are written on four surfaces of the inner wall 11 of the target storage facility 1, and an operator reads the position of the article 13 to be stored, the object of the operation, as X and Y values by the scales 12. Next, a point 32 corresponding to the X and Y values is plotted in a traveling crab present position display device mounted inside the operation room. The traveling crab 4 is guided to just above the article 13 to be stored, the object of the operation, by operating the crossing point 31 of x1 and y1 indicating the traveling crab 4 to be superimposed on the point 32 on the display screen.
