Method for the selective reduction of industrial and household waste using a combination of high temperature melting and the addition of oxygenated compounds to neutralise the reducing potential

A method for the high temperature melting, by the Joule effect in a graphite or carbon crucible, of a mixture of mineral materials incorporating oxides some of which are easily reduced by the carbon with a view to separating a metallic phase resulting from the selective reduction of a part of these oxides from another part and to obtain a slag containing the other oxides of this other part. The mixture of oxides is subjected to a selective reduction, the reducing potential of the carbon being neutralised by some additions of oxygenated compounds more readily reduced than the oxides that are to be retained in the slag.
