The service unit, especially for an open-end spinner, has a sliver insertion arm (22) with a cleaner for the sliver loosening section to separate the fibers for spinning. It has a blower jet (34) within the drive cone of the arm, activated by a control valve (31). The open-end spinner servicing unit delivers a stream of air (35) from the jet on to the inner tooth structure (36) of the drive cone. A drive shaft (39), connected to the drive cone, has a center drilling (38) for connection to a compressed air supply through the electromagnetic 2/2 path valve. The valve is operated as the arm is moved into its operating position, so that the air stream from the jet is divided by the cone teeth into part-streams for an effective cleaning of the soiled zones of the spinner sliver loosening roller.
