A system and method for filtration of biological liquids include a collection assembly (30), a filtration assembly (40) and a blood components preservative assembly (50), each in communication with the collection assembly (30). The preservative assembly (50) includes a blood components preservative container (52) containing a measured quantity of sterile gas (56) and optionally, a preservative solution (54). The preservative assembly (50) is adapted to automatically transfer at least a portion of the preservative solution (54) and gas (56) to the collection assembly (30) under force of gravity once flow between the preservative container (52) and collection assembly (30) begins. When at least a portion of the biological liquid, preservative solution (54) and gas (56) have been transferred, the collection container (34) is adapted to automatically transfer at least a portion of the biological liquid, preservative solution (54) and gas (56) to the filtration assembly (40) under force of gravity once flow between the collection container (34) and filtration assembly (40) begins. |
