The shelf support system comprises a pair of vertical rails (1) , each having a similar set of rectangular apertures (3) for shelf brackets. A low voltage electrical supply is provided by a two core cable (6) passed down through the hollow rail. The shelf support system comprises a pair of vertical rails (1) which may be attached to a support wall. Each rail has a similar set of rectangular apertures (3) by which brackets may be attached to carry shelves at a chosen height. A low voltage electrical supply is provided within one of the rails by use of a two core cable (6) which is passed down through the hollow rail. The cable structure is pierced by elongate keyhole apertures at intervals down its central axis. The spacing between these apertures coincides with that between the holes in the vertical rails. By use of a hooked tool the cable may be drawn close to a rail aperture, and then a plug may be fitted into the cable and turned by a quarter turn in order to establish connection.
