PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to accurately adjust a sampling clock. SOLUTION: This display device comprises a discriminating means for discriminating at each field whether or not a video existence area width of an input video is narrower than the number of effective horizontal pixels based on a calculation result by a calculating means, and a means for halting frequency adjusting operation based on the number of the sampling clocks obtained from the field when it is discriminated that the video existence area width of the input video is narrower than the number of effective horizontal pixels.
