Maxillo-facial occlusive prosthesis

The prosthesis, designed to make good a cavity left following surgical excision of a malignant maxillary-facial tumour, consists of a hollow cover (2) with a supple wall (7) shaped to fit in the cavity, closed by a separate intermediate plate (3) which adjoins the cover's lower edge (8) and acts as a support for a possible dental-palatal or dental prosthesis (6). The intermediate plate is made from a rigid material e.g. of the type used for dental prostheses and has reversible fastenings (4) with bone implants (5) of a material with a shape memory effect for attaching it to the patient.
