ELECTRIC DISCHARGE LAMP

An electric discharge lamp wherein an insertion member of metal or ceramic is installed in a hermetically sealed region between an electricity introducing body and a narrow tube, so as to improve the reliability of the hermetically sealed region. The difference between the inner diameter of the narrow tube and the outer diameter of the insertion member is 0.02 - 0.6 mm. The electricity introducing body comprises a first member resistant to halogen and a second member approximately equal in linear expansion coefficient to the narrow tube, with the junction between the first and second members being covered with a halogen-resistant glass sealant. The difference between the length of insertion of the second member into the narrow tube and the length of flow-in of the glass sealant into the narrow tube is greater than 1 mm.
