PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary machine such as a steam or gas turbine, and particularly the rotary machine having a seal assembly for controlling a clearance between the tip of the rotating moving blade and a stationary outer casing of the rotary machine. SOLUTION: The rotary machine 10 includes a rotatable rotor 12, blades 14 mounted in the radial direction at spaces in the periphery of the rotor 12, a fixed casing 16 disposed in the periphery of the rotor 12 and the blades 14 outward in the radial direction to form an annular gap 18 between the casing 16 and the tips 14a of the blades 14, and a flexible abradable seal assembly 20 so constructed that while the rotor 12 and the blades 14 make different expansion relative to the casing 16, the seal assembly 20 bends and wears away in response to the contact of the blade tip 14a, and fitted to the casing 16 and disposed in the annular gap 18 so that the gap between the casing 16 and the blade tip 14a is controlled to avoid contact of the moving blade tip 14a with the casing 16. |
