PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold rolled steel strip for three piece can suitable for high speed can making. SOLUTION: At the time of preparing a continuously cast slab containing, by weight, <=0.0040% C, <=0.05% Si, 0.1 to 0.7% Mn, <=0.05% P, <=0.03% S, 0.02 to 0.12% sol.Al and <=0.0035% N, subjecting the slab to rough rolling into a rough bar and next subjecting the rough bar to finish rolling into a hot rolled steel strip, the finish rolling is performed in such a manner that the outlet side temperature in the finish rolling is controlled to the Ar3 transformation point to 920 deg.C over the whole length in the longitudinal direction and the whole width in the width direction of the steel strip, also, the change of the outlet side temperature in the finish rolling at the central part in the width direction of the steel over the whole length in the longitudinal direction of the steel strip is controlled to<=30 deg.C, and, also, the difference in the outlet side temperature in the finish rolling between the central part and the edge parts in the width direction of the steel strip is controlled to <=20 deg.C, and the obtained hot rolled steel strip is coiled around a coil at 540 to 680 deg.C, is next pickled and is thereafter subjected to cold rolling, annealing and second rolling to control its sheet thickness to <=0.15 mm.
