[Also in Divisions A2, B8 and F2] A machine for the helical movement of cylindrical objects arranged longitudinally in series, comprises an elongated tubular guide 19, and at least two tandem aligned sets of at least three driven rollers 30A, 30B, 30C, and 32A, 32B, 32C disposed as shown to impart both a rotational and a forwarding motion to the objects. The rollers 30, 32 are all driven in synchronism by suitable gearing. The machine is described in conjunction with the application of a tobacco sheet ribbon R to helically wrap cigar bunches, but it may also be used for applying a protective sheet and coating to metal tubes and rods, or to apply a decorative helical stripe to cylindrical objects by painting, burning, etching or grinding. |
