CHANNEL ESTIMATION METHOD AND APPARATUS THEREOF

PURPOSE: A channel estimation method and an apparatus thereof is provided to increase the accuracy of a temporary decision to compensate data symbols, in case that a receiving side in an advanced mobile communication system uses a pilot channel and a data channel for channel estimation at the same time, and to estimate a continuously varying channel more exactly. CONSTITUTION: The first channel estimation unit(100) executes a primary channel estimation using the pilot symbols received through a multi-path channel. A temporary decision unit(200) calculates a temporary decision value for a data symbol received through each path using a channel estimation value for each path. A decision comparison unit(300) compares each of the temporary decision values calculated at the temporary decision unit(200) and outputs a demodulation reference of a data symbol having identical temporary decision values. The second channel estimation unit(400) demodulates each of the relevant data symbols according to the demodulation references provided from the decision comparison unit(300) and executes a secondary channel estimation using this demodulated data symbols and the pilot symbols.
