PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structured document communication system, which is improved in the efficiency of data transfer between terminal equipment and a server device while keeping a high speed of the next document display on the terminal equipment. SOLUTION: Concerning the communication system, in which a server device 2 storing a structured document hierarchically constituting a document to become the unit of document display and terminal equipment 1 for acquiring and displaying the structured document stored in the server device 2 are connected through a network 3, the terminal equipment 1 reports the identifier of a document instructed to display by a user to the server device 2, the server device 2 transmits a document next to the reported document to the terminal equipment 1 and this document is preserved in the terminal equipment 1. Thus, the efficiency of data transfer between the terminal equipment 1 and the server device 2 is improved while keeping the high speed of the next document display on the terminal equipment 1.
