The invention concerns a method for controlling an alternator-starter rotor field coil power designed to operate as a power generator in alternator mode and for operating as motor in starter mode. The invention is characterised in that it consists in overexciting the rotor field coil in starter mode to maximise the starting torque of the alternator-starter.
