PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a light weight substrate for a lead acid battery is provided to improve adhesive property between a mother substrate and lead by uniformly plating lead on surface of the mother substrate, and secure a lead layer having strong corrosion resistance and high adhesive property with an active material by adding a post process of quenching the plated substrate into lead molten metal, thereby forming a lead layer having a desirable thickness. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of plating lead on a mother substrate, and quenching the lead plated mother substrate into lead molten metal in a method for manufacturing a light weight substrate for a lead acid battery, wherein a core material of the mother substrate is Al, Cu, Fe, Ti or Ni, the thickness of the lead plating layer is 0.1 to 30 microns, and a temperature of the lead molten metal is from 327 to 500 deg.C.
