A vacuum cleaner which refluxes exhaust air from an electrically driven fan to a suction unit so as to utilize the exhaust air in removing dust from a cleaning-subject surface, wherein the vacuum cleaner includes a suction passageway (40) extending for air communication from a suction port (24) formed in a suction unit (21) to a dust collecting chamber (31), an exhaust passageway (41) through which at least part of the exhaust air discharged during driving of an electrically driven fan (32) is refluxed to the suction unit (21), the suction unit (21) having a rotary brush (26) driven for rotation by an electric motor (29), the suction unit (21) having a rotary brush (26) driven for rotation by an electric motor (29) housed therein, and wherein the dust collecting performance can be prevented from lowering, particularly on a carpet, due to the lowering of the negative pressure in the suction port (24) which occurs when the exhaust air from the electrically driven fan (32) is refluxed to the suction unit (21).
