The modular shank consists of a a central medullary pin (1) with a cylindrical portion (3) at its proximal end (2), a thrust member (4) with a cylindrical bore (5) to fit the cylindrical portion, lower (6) and upper (9) stops for the thrust member and a support (7) to carry the male component of the prosthesis' spherical joint. The lower stop is in the form of a conical surface (11) on a crown (12) forming part of the medullary pin, while the upper stop is a conical surface (22) on the support.
