A seismic and vibration isolation bearing assembly for buildings and structures. The bearing assembly (10) comprises a compressible friction ball (10) resting on a lower seat (12) with a structure (1) resting on top of the friction ball (10). The core (22) of the friction ball (10) comprises particulate material to resist rolling motion and is enclosed by layer (24). The contacting surfaces of the structure and lower seat may be flat or curved.
