PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covering structure of a road and a shock absorbing method capable of thinning reinforced concrete forming a roof and safely protecting a structure by the roof from falling rock from a steep slope and dispersing the shockload and a absorbing the shock load. SOLUTION: A shock absorbing material 6 is put on the roof 5 of a covering structure 1 for a road constructed along a steep inclined face to form the shock absorbing structure. The shock absorbing material 6 is a space truss structure including diagonal members inclined to the shocking direction. The diagonal members are disposed to incline to the shocking direction to absorb the impact energy of falling substances by the bending resistance of the space truss structure.
