The invention relates to a process for producing binary and ternary copolymers, containing maleic anhydride and N-vinylpyrrolidone by radicalic or in-solution copolymerization of a mixture of maleic anhydride: N-vinylpyrrolidone in a ratio of 1: 1 ...1: 1.5 or maleic anhydride : N-vinylpyrrolidone : vinyl comonomer in a ratio of 1: 0.1 : 0.9 ...1: 0.9 : 0.1, in the presence of a solvent being 1: 1 ...1: 5 and of azobis-isobutyronitrile as initiator, at a temperature ranging between 55 ...95 degree C for 4 for 10 h. The resulting binary and ternary copolymers have a preset molecular mass and hydrophobe / hydrophile ratios suitable for every industrial purpose.
