The method involves triggering on and off switching processes using a coil (11) supplied with current generated on the drive side of the coupling by a generator (16,17,19) and fed to the coil. The coupling consists of a coil, a drive part (3,6,7), a frictional part (friction plate and armature plate) and a driven part. The drive part is connected to the rotor side of the generator, whose current is fed to the coil via an electrical connection (20).
