The assembly to apply a heat treatment to joined sections of materials (10), and especially for drying carpet fabrics, has a continuous conveyor (4) with, at most, a very low air permeability. A beating air jet system is formed by rows of upper and lower blower boxes (6-9) flanking the conveyor belt level with the carried fabric, and across the width of the belt (4). The conveyor belt is of metal plate, impermeable to air, or it is perforated to give a free perforation hole area of <= 5% of the belt surface area. The air delivery system has beating air jet blower boxes (6,8) and also blower boxes (7,9) fitted with jets to give impact air streams. The blower boxes (8) giving beating air streams under the active level of the belt (4) have a higher air throughput than the blower boxes (6) over the belt (4) level.
