PURPOSE: A method for managing a permanent object of an object-oriented database system is provided to increase the convenience of a user by reading an object stored in a database in a main memory, and by using the object in an object-oriented application program. CONSTITUTION: A permanent object related request item is received in the process of executing an object-oriented application program(501). In case that information received is read as a permanent object generation request(502), an object in a main memory is generated(503). a conversion method into a stored object is called(504). The conversion method is stored in a database(505). In case that the information is read as a request for accessing to an existing permanent object(506), it is confirmed whether a relevant object is loaded in the main memory(507). In case that there's the relevant object in the main memory, an area is allocated in the main memory(508). The stored object is read from the database(509). The conversion method is called and converted(510). An object of the main memory is made(511). In case that the information is read as a request for changing the permanent object(512), it is confirmed whether to reflect contents changed to the database(513). A conversion method into the stored object is executed(514). The contents are reflected to the database(515). In case that the information is read as a request for deleting the permanent object(516), it is confirmed whether to reflect contents changed to the database(517). The object stored in the database is deleted(518).
