Secure transaction system for Internet purchases uses link to mobile phone for confirmation of transaction payment

The use of the mobile telephone link enables separate validation of the transaction. In carrying out a secure transaction on the network, a user first sends personal identification data to a web server (10) and having entered the data via a computer (12). The web server (10) transmits the personal identification data and the associated instructions to a secure transaction device (1) where the user details are held within a payment record system. Confirmation of the transaction is requested of the user by means of a radio link to a mobile telephone. The confirmation of the transaction is then transmitted to the web server and to the payment record system (10 and 16).
