PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hand shake correcting device capable of correcting hand shakes that take place in still picture photographing, and its correcting method. SOLUTION: This hand shake correcting part 24 of a digital still camera 10 selects a supply destination with a changeover switch SW1, according to a switching signal 16A about the supply of an image data from a frame memory 24a, and a changeover switch SW2 also selects image data to be a supply source that supplies to a correlation operating part 24b according to the signal 16A. The part 24b uses image pickup image data itself and image data red from either a frame memory 24a or 24b, calculates the shifting of one image data with which the difference between the value of a shifted pixel of one image data and the value of a pixel of the other image data is minimized, and defines it as hand shake correction quantity. An address-shifting part 24c shifts image data from the memory 24a on the basis of the correction quantity, combines the corrected image data with image data from the memory 24e, and re-stores them in the memory 24a. The correction processing is repeated for plural prescribed number of times, and subsequently, the image data from the memory 24e are outputted via a changeover switch SW3.
