HYDROGEN OCCLUDING AGENT FOR VACUUM AND METHOD FOR EVACUATING CLOSED SPACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogen occluding agent for vacuum which easily absorbs hydrogen and can stably immobilize once absorbed hydrogen without releasing even when exposed to high temperature and to enable vacuum in a closed space to be maintained to improve reliability. SOLUTION: This hydrogen occluding agent 2 for vacuum is made of an alloy of binary or more system comprising a metal A selected among simplex and/or an alloy of a rare earth metal and a metal B selected among simple and/or an alloy of a transition metal from the groups VIA to group VIII except Pd in the periodic table and composition ratio B/A is <=3.5. In order to evacuate the closed space 1 by using the hydrogen occluding agent for vacuum, the hydrogen occluding agent 2 is housed in the closed space 1, inside of the space is replaced with gaseous hydrogen, the gaseous hydrogen is absorbed by the hydrogen occluding agent 2 for vacuum to evacuate inside of the space.
