PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting element capable of reducing influence of an organic film disposed on the electron emitting element as much as possible on electron emitting characteristics, and a manufacturing method for it. SOLUTION: An electron emitting element is equipped with a pair of conductive films 4 disposed on a base 1 at an interval and an organic film 6 disposed on the conductive film 4, and the organic film 6 is disposed in a region on the conductive film 4 in this electron emitting element. Also, an electron emitting element is equipped with a pair of conductive films 4 disposed on a base 1 at an interval and an organic film 6 disposed on the conductive film 4, and the sticking part of the organic film 6 extruded from the rim side of the conductive film on the base 1 is kept within a width of not more than 5μm.
