PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a biodegradable resin exhibiting a high water absorption factor, resistance to salt, a low water soluble content, a high water absorbing rate, high water retention properties (gel strength) and other characteristics. SOLUTION: A resin obtained by hydrolyzing a reaction product of an anhydrous poly(acidic amino acid) with a protein is brought into contact and reacted with a crosslinking agent bearing a functional group reactive with a functional group in the resin to effect a crosslinking in the vicinity of the surface of the resin. Desirably, the anhydrous poly(acidic amino acid) is polysuccinimide and has a water absorption factor for a physiologic saline of at least 10 g/g.
