PURPOSE: An electron gun for a color cathode ray tube is provided to improve a spot degeneration and a moire at a periphery of a screen, thereby preventing an expansion of a horizontal spot and a reduction of a vertical spot. CONSTITUTION: An electron gun(4) for a color cathode ray tube comprises a tripolar portion comprised of a plurality of cathodes for radiating an electron beam and a controlling and accelerating electrode for controlling an amount of the electron beam, a pre-focus lens portion comprised of a plurality of electrodes and serving as an electron beam condenser, a main lens portion comprised of a plurality of electrodes and condensing the electron beam on a screen, a first quadrapole lens for improving a condensing force in a vertical direction and a second quadrapole lens which is reversely operated corresponding to the first quadrapole lens. A constant-voltage is applied to at least one electrode out of the electrodes of the main lens portion, which is positioned at a side of a cathode. A dynamic-voltage is applied to at least one out of the remaining electrodes of main lens portion.
