PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier by which an optical output of a wavelength division multiplex(WDM) optical signal transmitted in two ways in an incoming direction and an outgoing direction can be regulated to be constant. SOLUTION: This optical amplifier is configured such that an optical amplifier means 13 is placed between two optical branch/insert means 12a, 12b that branch/insert light with a specific wavelength, ports of the two optical branch/ insert means 12a, 12b are connected, and an optical output equalizing means 2 is placed in the optical path to which the optical amplifier means 13 is placed among three optical paths interconnecting the two optical branch/insert means 12a, 12b. An optical signal traveling in the incoming direction is multiplexed with an optical signal traveling in the outgoing direction through wavelength routing by using the two optical branch/insert means 12a, 12b, the multiplexed signal is given to the optical amplifier means 13, where the signal is optically amplified with the outgoing signal, the amplified signal is demultiplexed from the outgoing signal through the wavelength routing by using the two optical branch/insert means 12a, 12b again and combined with the optical transmission line in the incoming direction. |
