PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an indole derivative which has an anticancer or antitumor activity, especially a telomerase-inhibiting action, and is useful as an anticancer medicine or antitumor medicine. SOLUTION: An indole derivative of formula I [(m) is 1-20; (n) is 1-5; X is an alkylene or carbonyl; Y is OH, carboxyl or the like; R1, R2 are each H, or R1 and R2 are directly bound to each other; R3 is H, a (substituted) alkyl or the like; R4, R5, R6 are each H or a halogen] or its salt, or their hydrate or solvate, for example, 1-indolyl-2-[3-N-(11-carboxylundecyl) acetamoylindolyl]ethane. The derivative of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in the presence of a base such as a tertiary butyloxy potassium or sodium ethylate and then hydrolyzing the obtained compound by a conventional method.
