PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a reproduced output when a magnetoresistive effect element (MR element) is used for reading digital information recorded in a magnetic recording medium via a magnetic field strength from a magnetic recording medium as a signal. SOLUTION: Upper yokes are divided into an upper yoke front part and an upper yoke rear part 4 via a gap 5 and also an MR element 9 is disposed in the gap 5 for detecting a magnetic recording signal, and this head is constructed so as to form a magnetic circuit of a reproducing head gap 6, the upper yoke front part 3, the MR element 9, the upper yoke rear part 4, and the lower yoke part 2. In this case, the upper yokes 3, 4 are formed of an Fe series showing a high resistivity soft magnetism or Co series ferro-magnetic material, and the resistivity of the upper yokes 3, 4 is set to be five fold the MR element 9 or larger and in addition the magnetic permeability of the upper yokes 3, 4 is >=300.
