PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microlens substrate in which absorption of light n a short wavelength region is suppressed although microlenses made of a resin are formed on the substrate, and to provide a liquid crystal display device having uniform wavelength distribution of display light in the visible ray region (400 nm to 700 nm) and having high reliability which permits achromatic white display. SOLUTION: An electrode pattern and plural microlenses made of a resin are formed on a transparent substrate, and a liquid crystal substance is held between this substrate and a counter substrate having a electrode pattern separately formed. As for the resin to form the microlenses, a resin having <=1.8×103 extinction coefft. (k) at 400 nm wavelength is used.
